Windward Islands
Made up of lush rainforests, dramatic mountains and sheltered bays fringed with white sandy beaches, the Windward Islands are strewn down the eastern Caribbean stretching from Martinique and St Lucia to the Grenadines and Grenada.
St Lucia and Martinique in the north have an interesting mix of French and English heritage. Further down the island chain, the Grenadines are a haven for the waterborne as 32 islands and cays are strung out over the strikingly blue sea, each one a short hop from the next. Southernmost of the Windward Islands and named the Spice Island, Grenada is one of the more sleepy Caribbean islands, and Barbados, the most easterly of them all, has a quaint British air.

The Grenadine Islands in the Caribbean are a fantastic playground for charterers. Vast reefs, the most impressive of which can be found at Tobago Cays, offer fantastic snorkelling, and the clear waters are perfect for swimming and water sports. Those seeking pure relaxation and postcard-perfect beaches should head straight for Palm Island, where they’ll find Casuarina with its unbelievable white sand beaches. Food throughout the Grenadines is generally highly regarded and reflects a variety of cuisines, from local Caribbean dishes to more continental fusion style. I highly recommend booking a table at Firefly on Mustique, where you can indulge in classic American dishes with a Caribbean twist.

Grenada’s most popular restaurant Aquarium is worth a visit on Sunday afternoons when it serves up a barbecue accompanied by live reggae and calypso by the water’s edge.
