French Riviera & St Tropez
The gilded coastline of the French Riviera is without doubt a must-visit destination for anyone who considers themselves a bona fide charterer.
Strung out between beach and mountain along the slender curve of the corniche, the towns and villages have never lost their iridescence and allure, and there is no better way to enjoy it than your own superyacht. Between great isolated and untouched stretches of country, sun-drenched beaches and palm-fringed streets you catch fleeting glimpses of the pink and white belle-époque villas hidden behind umbrella pines and medieval walled villages. This celebrated stretch of French coastline runs from Monaco down to the Iles d’Hyéres. In between you have a feast of legendary destinations, including Nice, Cannes, Antibes and St Tropez. Although it is renowned for these high profile spots, the French Riviera also has a wealth of peaceful, picturesque islands that should not be missed.
Step ashore to the bustling market and designer boutiques that line the cobblestone streets of St Tropez that has remained surreally exclusive and sublimely glamorous. Hard to beat for posing on the sand and dining in world class restaurants, it was made fashionable by the British aristocracy who introduced a touch of high society. Film stars and royalty have long since graced its shores and endorsed its reputation for glamour. Once a quiet fishing village, it shot to fame in 1956 when director Roger Vadim and a steamingly sexy Brigitte Bardot triumphed with the celluloid scorcher Et Dieu… Créa La Femme, since then St Tropez has simmered with uber-cool status. With almost 300 days a year of sunshine it is the perfect place to spend lazy afternoons at one of the exclusive beach clubs that occupy this famous stretch of sand. Pampelonne Beach has been attracting the jet set since the fifties and today it’s the richest, raunchiest and most hedonistic stretch of sand in the Mediterranean.
