Antigua Charter Yacht Show review

1st Jan 2012

The infamous, industry-only show started the winter season off with a bang, showcasing a wide selection of the finest yachts currently available on the charter market.

From the 4 - 10 December, Antigua's clear shores were infiltrated by the world’s finest charter yachts.  Camper & Nicholsons contributed well to this year's offerings and had a fantastic selection of yachts from its charter fleet available for inspection, including the 62.5m (203'4) Icon from Icon Yachts, the 53.50m (175’6) Hurricane Run from Feadship, the 50m (164’) Jo from Benetti, the 42.90m (140’8) Koo from Vitters Holland, the 42.28m (138’8) Calliope from Holland Jachtbouw, the 39.64m (130') Lionshare from Heesen, the 36.58m (120’) Chosen One from Intermarine Savannah, and the 34.30m (112’6) Mystery from Nautor’s Swan.

Despite the rain, the week boasted an array of spectacular parties and entertainment.  Camper & Nicholsons kicked off the week's celebrations in style, hosting its annual Captain & Crew Appreciation dinner at the beautiful beachside Reef Restaurant at The Inn at English Harbour, sponsored by the champagne house Armand de Brignac, CNI Marinas, and IGY Marinas. A black and gold themed birthday welcome dinner - celebrating the 50th anniversary of the show - also provided a glamorous start to proceedings and included spectacular dance performances and was attended by the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda as well as the Minister of Tourism. Camper & Nicholsons also hosted its renowned yacht-hop, again sponsored by the champagne house Armand de Brignac, CNI Marinas, and IGY marinas. Guests were met by a variety of entertaining themes ranging from the 50's to The Great Gatsby, delicious canapes and mouth-watering cocktails, as they made their way from one yacht to the next.  Throughout the week, select guests were also treated to unforgettable brunches and lunches onboard Calliope, Chosen One, Icon, Jo and Hurricane Run.  Furthermore, a lucky few were given the unique opportunity to experience the smooth sailing of the fast sloop Koo, during a micro-charter to Carlisle Bay.

Every year this exclusive, industry event provides brokers with the unique opportunity to familiarise themselves with the market's leading yachts, as well as the designs, layouts, facilities and crew available for the upcoming season.  As usual, Camper & Nicholsons' experts were at the show, thoroughly examining the selection of yachts for clients and their records.  For more information on the yachts showcased during the show, or for our expert recommendations, please contact your nearest Camper & Nicholsons charter broker.
