ISM Code - International Safety Management

The ISM Code is a mandatory management system for all commercial vessels over 500 GT. However, we strongly recommend it for any large yacht. It consists of a documented set of procedures that govern onboard safety and pollution prevention. Adherence to the code is verified by internal audits and external audits from Flag State surveyors; following which compliant yachts are issued with a Safety Management Certificate. By employing Camper & Nicholsons International yacht management division to administer ISM aboard a yacht, an owner has the dual benefit of knowing that the vessel is being run to international safety standards and that the responsibility for ensuring the yacht’s seaworthiness is shared with Camper & Nicholsons International.

ISPS Code - International Ship & Port Facility Security

Like the ISM Code, ISPS applies to all commercial vessels over 500 GT. The code was developed in response to the altered global security situation following 9/11. In order to comply with the code, each vessel must have an approved security plan containing measures that can be implemented for various security levels set by local governing bodies. Camper & Nicholsons International yacht mnagement division has extensive experience in conducting security assessments aboard yachts and producing the necessary approved shipboard security plans. Our approach is pragmatic and achieves compliance with a minimum of expense and disruption to a yacht’s operation.
