Kahalani and Calliope pick up ShowBoats Design Awards

28th Oct 2011

On 25th October, more than 300 superyacht owners, designers and industry leaders gathered for the annual ShowBoats Design Awards ceremony at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida’s Palm Beach. Guests came together for the awards ceremony that saw leaders in their field honoured for their contribution to yachting architecture, design, style and technology.

Camper & Nicholsons congratulates all the winners of the ShowBoats Design Awards and, in particular, those from its fleet which picked up two awards during the evening. The award for best Interior Design for a displacement motor yacht of 100’ – 199’ went to Remi Tessier for the 55m (180’7) Kahalani. Built by Feadship in collaboration with CNI’s Alex Lees Buckley, Kahalani is for private use only. Her exterior design is a modern take on the classic DeVoogt/Feadship design, and incorporates bespoke exterior furniture by Remi Tessier. The awardwinning interior combines oiled ebony flooring, high-gloss Macassar Ebony units, highly polished stainless steel detailing, with sycamore and silver-leaf ceilings, specially hand-crafted wall finishes, custom made furniture and soft furnishings, and Calacatta marble bathrooms. At her launch Henk deVries announced that Kahalani had to have one of the highest levels of detail finish that the Feadship yard had delivered.

The Exterior Design & Styling Award for a semi-displacement motor yacht went to Langan Design Associates for the 42.2m (138’8) Calliope. Built by Holland Jachtbouw with Langan Design Associates, Calliope is an inspired combination of engineering and design excellence. An all-aluminium gentleman’s yacht, her experienced owner’s influence is evident in every detail. A high specification and extreme comfort were prime objectives, with noise and vibration issues afforded particular attention. Her naval architecture and exterior styling by the Rhode Island based experts has masculine lines with a traditional feel. Atop her distinctive blue hull, her three decks feature an integrated bridge that contributes to her classic profile. The award winning Calliope is available for charter through CNI in the Caribbean this winter season.
