‘Getting to Yes’ new online training course now available to Camper & Nicholsons International’s fleet captains

Our in-house Crew Coach Alison Rentoul has launched the latest in a series of fully virtual online leadership courses titled ‘Getting to Yes’ – the ultimate guide to building and maintaining powerful relationships, negotiating, networking and resolving conflicts.

Having the right skills to operate a yacht is just one part of being successful - being able to work with many different types of people in sometimes very challenging conditions is a key skill for building a successful yachting career and operating a successful vessel.

Camper & Nicholsons International recognises that getting along with people and building respectful relationships is a vital part to being successful in the yachting industry. While yachting is about yachts, what makes yachts successful are the people: the captains and crew that work so hard to provide our guests with impeccable yachting experiences. And the better everyone gets along, the smoother and more enjoyable those guest experiences can be.

In this four part fully online course, Alison Rentoul, The Camper & Nicholsons Crew Coach, takes participants through why building strong relationships is important, how to become a powerful relationship builder, how to work through conflict and negotiate solutions.

As you watch the videos and progress through the accompanying training workbook you’ll gain the knowledge and skills to easily build and maintains strong relationships and handle conflict, networking and negotiation with confidence. 

Part I covers the secret to obtaining genuine power in relationship building. Learn how to develop effective negotiating and conflict resolution skills that can bring you greater personal and professional success.

Part II is all about why people don’t always get along. This section covers common sources of conflict onboard and how to address them, as well as providing clarity on your legal obligations with respect to bullying and harassment onboard under the new MLC.

Part III takes a different perspective on conflict. It looks at seeing the opportunities in conflict, with fast and effective conflict resolution strategies that will quickly bring both sides back into alignment and working towards mutual goals.

And finally Part IV examines negotiation techniques for gaining agreement without losing face or giving in. We also cover saying ‘no’ to people in a way that makes them happy to hear it. As a bonus there’s a section on industry networking skills and how to build a powerful professional reputation to boost your career.
