Market Intelligence - November 2012
November saw a fantastic number of yachts sold, surpassing the sales of the previous months of 2012. In fact the last time we saw such a volume of sales was in May 2010. The combined asking prices of yachts sold during November was in excess of US$550,000,000. Again, the last time we saw asking price values of this level was in 2010, also during the month of November.
Camper & Nicholsons was responsible for five of the yachts that were sold during November. The largest yachts sold during November included a 100m+ megayacht from Lurssen, and two 50-metre+ superyachts – one from Oceanco and the other from Amels – all significant sales in terms of size and value. 30% of the 24-metre + yachts sold were built since 2008 whilst 37% were pre-2000 models.
The largest yacht to join the brokerage market during November was the 72-metre RM Elegant – built in 2005 by the Lamda Shipyard, she is listed for sale with Camper & Nicholsons. The smaller size segment saw approximately ten 30-metre+ yachts join the brokerage market during November, including a few models from Lazzara, and a couple of Sunseekers, and a brand new 2012 Ferretti.
During October and November a significant number of sales came from the 30 – 40-metre size market. Approximately 38% of the yachts currently for sale are between 30 – 40-metres, with an estimated asking price value exceeding US$4 billion. Westport, Sunseeker, Sanlorenzo, Heesen, Ferretti and Benetti are popular yachts on the market in this size bracket. Whilst one of the oldest yachts on the market is a 36m Camper & Nicholsons build launched in Gosport in 1932.
