As we approach the end of the first half of 2015, Camper & Nicholsons contemplates recent brokerage activity, latest market figures and new trends.
With just a few weeks until the end of the first half of the year we can report that activity in the brokerage market is steadily continuing and the outlook for the first half of the year looks positive. This year to date the market has seen ample brokerage activity with 188 yachts sold since January.
Looking at the size and type of yachts on the market, the 24m-30m size segment is the size bracket that has shown the most health in terms of sales to date this year with 82 yachts sold, representing 11% of this size segment that are for sale, the 30m-40m motor yacht size segment saw 67 yachts sold, representing 9% of this size segment that are for sale, and the 40m-50m size segment saw 22 sales, representing 7% of this size segment that are for sale. The 50-metre+ size segment was also healthy with 15 yachts sold out of 144 on the market.
May itself saw 57 sales, a number that is significantly up on April, which saw 38 sales. May's largest sale was a 60-metre Lurssen, followed by a 58-metre Elsflether and a 55-metre Oceanfast. A 30-metre sailing yacht by Southern Wind Shipyard was the largest sailing yacht to sell during May, while Arno Leopard, Ferretti and Sunseeker were the most common builds to sell.
