Camper & Nicholsons contemplates recent brokerage activity, latest market figures and new trends.
June saw sales in the superyacht sector soar above the same month in 2014, while an impressive number of magnificent deliveries hit the high seas for the Mediterranean cruising season ahead. The brokerage sector concluded 48 superyacht sales during June, up by five on the previous June 2014, but a decrease on the previous month of May, which saw 57 yachts sold. The largest yacht sold in June was a 62m motor yacht from the Italian builders Benetti, followed by a 60m motor yacht from CMN and a 55m motoryacht, also from Benetti. Of the 48 superyachts sold, split 45/3 motor to sail, 10% were over 50-metres, 13% were between 40 - 50-metres, and 77% were sized between 24 - 40-metres.
A few superyachts joined the market for sale in June, the largest yacht now for sale on the brokerage market is a 122m Lubeck Yacht, and the largest yacht to join the brokerage fleet in June was the 85m Lurssen Solandge.
Looking back at the first six months of 2015, we can report that a total of 232 yachts have been sold to date. This is less than in the first half of 2014, when 259 yachts had been sold during the first six months. Of the 232 yachts sold during 2015 to date, sailing yachts account for 16, whereby they accounted for 23 of the yachts sold during the first half 2014. The 50m+ yachts sold is slightly up compared to last year showing that the size of the yachts, and subsequently the value being sold is slightly larger this year compared to last, while the volume is slightly down.
