The summer has arrived in the Mediterranean and with it the highest value of yachts sold since the beginning of the year.
The month of May recorded the highest value of yachts sold since the beginning of the year, with an approximate asking price value of over USD 350 million. Yachts sold during May include a 62m Icon, 48m Delta, 45m McMullen and the first hull of the Wider 150 due in 2015. Three sailing yachts were also sold, bringing the total for the year to approximately 15 sailing yachts sold with the cumulative asking prices, at time of sale, in excess of 70 million USD. 42% of yachts sold since the beginning of the year have been sized between 24m-30m, 30% have been in the 30-40m size segment, leaving the remaining 28% in the over 40m segment.
Approximately 10% of yachts placed on the market during May were sailing yachts with just over 35% in the 24-30m segment, almost 42% were in the size range 30 – 40m and 6% were 50m+.
Currently there are over 800 yachts worldwide for sale in the 24-30m range of which an approximate 14% are sailing yachts. In this size segment approximately 36% of the yachts are in US waters, whilst only 18% of over 50m are in US waters. The reason behind these figures being that a great deal of the larger yachts are in the Mediterranean for the Summer charter season.
