Operation Cruise - Honouring servicemen & women
Camper & Nicholsons is proud to support a unique and wonderful programme which honours the servicemen and women who have, and continue to, protect our freedom everyday.
We are searching for owners willing to donate their yachts and crew to 'Operation Cruise'. These are weekly cruises designed to entertain wounded US Special Operation Force veterans and their partners.
'Operation Cruise' was created in January, 2011, by founder and yacht owner, Gary L. Markel, to assist the United States Special Operations Command Care Coalition and their wounded veterans and family members. Its purpose is to allow wounded Special Operations veterans and their loved ones, to enjoy a once in a lifetime experience aboard a luxury yacht. As well as being a reward for their service (and physical or mental sacrifice), each trip includes an experienced licensed psychologist to help veterans and their families with the trauma of their experience and the new life that they will have to adjust to.
‘Operation Cruise’ has already demonstrated the great benefits one of these voyages delivers. Its initial cruise was aboard the founder’s motor yacht One More Toy in February, 2011. The participants were five wounded Special Operations veterans, their loved ones and a counselor. The group cruised the U.S. and British Virgin Islands for a week and the exercise proved to be of great physical and psychological value to the veterans.
We hope that yacht owners will donate their yachts, but in addition to this we are also appealing for tax deductible cash donations to help defray the variable costs associated with the trips. Please help us in our bid to recognise and reward these servicemen and women.
