The Best Anchorages of the Western Mediterranean

6th Jun 2013

From chic seafront towns to enchanting secret hideaways, the Western Mediterranean offers some of the most celebrated and beautiful coastlines in the world, perfect for a spectacular summer cruising vacation.

Camper & Nicholsons have a fantastic selection of charter yachts available in the region, offering something for everyone amongst an array of fabulous anchorages. Here are five of the best recommendations by our Charter Brokers and as featured in the Spring - Summer issue of Sea+I:

Bay d’Agay, Côte d’Azur

Charter Broker in Antibes, Tandy Demarchelier suggests: “The pretty natural harbour fringed by beaches of the horseshoe Bay d’Agay between St Tropez and Nice. It’s a peaceful anchorage and an ideal spot for an afternoon of water sports on board the sleek 41.1m (134’10) Griffin.”

Espalmador, Formentera, Balearics

“The magnificent anchorage of Espalmador lies off a small uninhabited island to the north of Formentera. Take a tender from the beautiful 56m (183’8) sailing yacht Parsifal IV or swim ashore and bathe in the natural mud baths at the heart of the island.” Sandra Artiach, Charter Broker in Palma.

Maronti Beach, Ischia, Amalfi Coast

Charter Broker in Antibes, Tina Montzka chooses the spectacular Maronti Beach on the Amalfi Coast: “one of the best places to sample the therapeutic benefits of Ischia’s thermal waters and volcanic mud. Anchor off in the bay off the island’s south coast and head ashore to bathe in thermal pools carved from rock on board the award winning 60m (196’8) Darlings Danama for example”.

Na Foradada, Mallorca, Balearics

Anne Sterringa, Charter Broker in Palma says: “Na Foradada is, in my opinion, one of the most enchanting anchorages in the Balearics, particularly at sunset when you will be treated to an illuminated view of the wild and untouched Sierra de Tramontana mountains. Why not take in the magic on board the award-winning 36m (119’) Metsuyan IV”.

Santa Manza, Corsica

The sheltered anchorage of Santa Manza is on Corsica’s southern coastline, only a short hop from the stunning harbour of Bonifacio and a comfortable cruise for the world-renowned 60m (196’8) St David” suggests Monaco Charter Broker, Pierre Hurel.
