The Mediterranean’s Most Beautiful Classic Yacht Race: Bailli de Suffren
Proudly sponsored by Camper & Nicholsons Marinas in conjunction with Camper & Nicholsons, the exciting 600 mile offshore long-distance classic yacht race, Trophée Bailli de Suffren, is an annual race for classic yachts visiting four of the most exotic ports in the Mediterranean.
The brainchild of three friends and classic yacht enthusiasts, it started as a highly sociable and semi-competitive event among a few classic yacht owners and enthusiasts, and it still retains this spirit of gentlemanly competition and revelling in good company.
The event is a joyous, friendly and unpretentious social occasion, a uniquely characterful event that creates the experiences, memories and friendships of a lifetime. The participants are a healthy mix of serious racers and those who treat it more as a rally while passing through some of the most scenic ports to include St Tropez, Malta, with stopovers in Sardinia and Sicily.
The yachts are fairly evenly split between classics (pre-1975) and vintage (pre-1949) with this year seeing a fantastic line-up including the 56m (183'7) schooner Atlantic entering for this year's race along with the 55m (180'4) Herreschoff schooner Elena.
The Bailli de Suffren also has a big culinary and epicurean component, with fine food and convivial (but decorous) drinking at the heart of the shore side activities.
