The Stars of the 2017 St Barths Bucket
Last week saw the glamorous Caribbean island of St Barths welcome some of the world's most magnificent sailing yachts for three solid days of racing in the 2017 St Barths Bucket Regatta.
Boasting a spectacular backdrop of pristine white-sand beaches, boutique hotels and elegant villas dotting its hillside, St Barths played host to an elite fleet of 38 entrants, setting off each day from the picture postcard Gustavia Harbour in ideal sailing conditions.
Amongst the fleet participating in the 30th year of this historic event, was the elegant 42.9m (140’75) sailing yacht Koo and the stunning 51.8m (169’8) sailing yacht Q, both of which dominated the Class E – Les Voiles Blanche races.
Opening the event, multiple award-winning ketch-rigged Q (available for charter exclusively with Camper & Nicholsons) won the day on the 20.5nm Around the Island Course 2. But it was Dubois-designed Koo that proved triumphant across the following two days of racing on the 21.9nm Not So Wiggley Course 13 and the 20.5nm Wrong Way Round Course 24 – claiming first place overall in her Class.
And while the sophistication and engineering might of the modern-day participants were sights to behold, spectators were thrilled to witness two iconic Camper & Nicholsons classic J-Class sailing yachts, 39.4m (91’2) Velsheda and 36.42m (119’5) Shamrock V battle it out across five spectacular races.
Camper & Nicholsons has represented more Perini Navi sailing yachts than any other brokerage house and one of this year’s stars of The Bucket was the magnificent 56m (184’) Rosehearty, our joint central agency when sold to her present owner – taking first place overall in Class D – Les Grandes Dames de Mers – with yet another Camper & Nicholsons managed yacht, 55.9m (183’4) sailing yacht Bayesian, putting in a great performance in the Class E races.
As a longstanding supporter and Friend of the St Barths Bucket, Camper & Nicholsons would like to congratulate all participating yachts, owners and their guests and offer special thanks to the Organisers who once again played host to a spectacular and well orchestrated event.
